“Transparências” is Violet's third album. In this iteration, the composer and producer who started her career in 2006 and was born in Lisbon with the name Inês Coutinho, the founder of the independent publishers naive and naivety and Rádio Quantica decides to follow a more concrete and more functional path.
In ten tracks cataloged according to their respective purpose, Violet offers us soundtracks for the practice of mundane activities. With ‘música para andar de transportes’ (music for taking public transport), ‘música para cantar no banho’ (music for singing in the shower) or ‘música para passear o cão à noite’ (music for walking the dog at night), Violet encourages us to experiment with the functionality of music as a tool for interpreting the ways in which we occupy time and space. They are pieces that support our routine, the reconnection between what we feel and what we do - be it work, chores, art, pleasure or necessity.
Inspired by the works of composers such as Delia Derbyshire and Wendy Carlos, Violet draws the main orientations of her functional music from the experimental traditions of musique concréte and library music, giving her compositions the purpose of an original soundtrack for everyday life, reimagining music as a universal right.
It invites us to interpret each piece of music through the act, giving it not only a meaning but also offering a co-authorship to the listener. By mixing genres such as ambient, jazz, jungle, downtempo or even lullabies, through different methods, platforms and sound techniques, Violet superimposes the transparencies of the spiritual and the sensorial to reframe and root what is physical and bring back to us what we create with our own work.
It is a record made of unique sonic layers and textures, based on her innermost creative impulses and aiming to connect the spirit of service to the infinite potential of the soul. It features the collaboration of some of Violet’s close friends: producer and composer BLEID and producer and composer PHOEBE - with cover art by Dipsy Rei, Brazilian illustrator and dancer.
The physical version of the album, in CD format, is accompanied by a book of poems written by Violet, complementing the sonic language with the written word in a multi-disciplinary piece that will be distributed free of charge in cultural and community spaces in march 2022.
